About IIRS and Its Mission

The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) plays a crucial role as an ISRO institution. It trains professionals in Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, and GNSS Technology. IIRS has educated fresh graduates mid-career professionals, and policymakers since 1966. The institute helps them keep up with the newest tech breakthroughs in geospatial sciences.

Course Overview

The “AI/ML for Geodata Analysis” course introduces students to AI ML, and Deep Learning (DL) basics emphasizing how these apply to geospatial data processing. The course structure balances theory and hands-on skills.

Course Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to AI ML, and DL: Getting to know the core ideas, backstory, and what sets AI, ML, and DL apart.
  • Methods in Machine Learning: Looking into different ML approaches such as Supervised Learning (working with tagged data), Unsupervised Learning (spotting trends in untagged data), and Reinforcement Learning (improving through practice and mistakes).
  • Deep Learning Concepts: Digging into cutting-edge topics like Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and other models including Faster R-CNN, SSD, and YOLO, which have an impact on geospatial data analysis.
  • Deep Learning’s Impact on Geospatial Data: Exploring how DL influences object detection, classification, change detection, and feature extraction.
  • Machine Learning with Google Earth Engine: Getting started with Google Earth Engine and learning to build and roll out ML models on geospatial data.
  • Python to Create Machine/Deep Learning Models: A practical way to use Python libraries such as TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch to develop and train ML/DL models.

Programme Schedule

The course starts on August 19, 2024, and ends on August 23, 2024. You can access it online through the IIRS-ISRO e-class platform. Here’s a breakdown of the sessions:
