Pune Porsche Crash: Pune, India – The father of a 17-year-old Pune teen, whose high-speed Porsche crash killed two young engineers, has been apprehended after an intricate escape plan was foiled by police. The crash, which occurred late Saturday night, has ignited national outrage, particularly after the teen was granted bail within 15 hours.
The luxury Porsche was allegedly speeding at nearly 200 km per hour when it collided with a motorcycle, instantly killing 24-year-old IT engineers Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshtha. The incident happened as the engineers were returning from a get-together.
In an attempt to evade arrest for allowing his underage son to drive, the father, a well-known realtor in Pune, executed a sophisticated escape plan. According to police, he left home in one car heading towards Mumbai, instructed another driver to head towards Goa in a different vehicle, and then switched to a friend’s car to travel towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad). He also started using a new SIM card to avoid being tracked.
Despite these efforts, police managed to trace his movements using GPS data from his friend’s car and CCTV footage along the route. The realtor was eventually caught in a late-night raid at a lodge in Sambhajinagar. He is set to appear in court today.
The bail conditions granted to the teenager—requiring him to write a 300-word essay on accidents, work with traffic police for 15 days, and undergo counseling for his drinking habit—have been widely criticized as too lenient. In response, police have petitioned the juvenile justice board to try the 17-year-old, who is just eight months shy of adulthood, as an adult. A decision on this matter is expected today.
The families of the deceased engineers have condemned the swift bail, terming the incident a “murder, not an accident.” They argue that the conditions of the bail are insufficient for the gravity of the crime.
In addition to the father, police have also arrested the owners and a staff member of two establishments that allegedly served alcohol to the minor on the night of the accident.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told NDTV that they are building a “watertight case” against the accused. “We have technical evidence coupled with corroborative evidence to ensure the accused is punished under the relevant sections of the law,” he stated.
This case continues to develop as the community and the nation watch closely for the outcomes of today’s court proceedings.
