Pune Rain News Today: Dam Gates Opened in Khadakwasla, Train & Road Traffic Hit
Pune Rain News: Heavy rains have lashed Pune Rain and other parts of Maharashtra, causing significant disruptions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for various regions, with Pune Rain under a red alert and Mumbai under a yellow alert. The continuous downpour has led to severe waterlogging, traffic chaos, and tragic incidents. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the situation.
The IMD has forecasted “generally cloudy sky with moderate rain” for Mumbai until Sunday, and a red alert has been issued for Pune Rain. Heavy rains are expected in the city until July 30, with temperatures ranging between 23 to 29 degrees Celsius. The IMD has also predicted extremely heavy rainfall for Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra.
In Mumbai, areas like Chembur experienced severe waterlogging, and Vile Parle faced traffic chaos. The Andheri subway was closed to vehicular movement due to incessant showers. Additionally, traffic was halted at Tamhini Ghat on the Raigad-Pune route due to debris from a landslide.
In Pune Rain, the city administration declared a holiday for schools and colleges, urging industrial establishments to consider the same. The heavy rains caused a rockslide in Adharwadi village, leading to one fatality and one injury, while a landslide in Lavasa trapped three people.
Pune Rain: Due to continuous rainfall, the gates of Khadakwasla Dam were opened, releasing water into the Mutha River at a rate of 40,000 cusecs. The Tansa Dam, one of Mumbai’s water supply sources, also had two of its gates opened. Residents in the vicinity of the Tansa Dam have been advised to stay alert.
Pune Rain: The heavy rains have severely impacted train services. The Central Railway rescheduled the CSMT-Madgaon Tejas Express (Train Number 22119), which was originally set to depart at 5:50 p.m., now leaving at 7:30 p.m. The Konkan Railway has short-terminated trains at Thane and Dadar stations due to extension work on platforms at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT).
The Mutha River in Pune Rain has risen above the danger mark due to the release of water from Khadakwasla Dam. This led to flooding of the riverbed road in the Deccan area and closure of the Bhide Bridge. Tragically, three people were electrocuted around 3 a.m. on Thursday near Z Bridge while moving their food stall due to rising water levels. Senior Police Inspector Swapnali Joshi of the Deccan Police Station reported, “The incident happened while they were relocating their food stall because of the rising water level in the Mutha River.”
The heavy rains in Maharashtra have caused widespread disruptions, from severe waterlogging in Mumbai to tragic incidents in Pune Rain. The IMD forecasts more rain until July 30, urging residents to stay cautious and prepared. As the situation unfolds, it is essential to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
